The Toto script is about as geographically focused as can be imagined: it is used in a single jungle village, population 1,500, in India near the Bhutanese border.
The Toto language was generally written in the Bengali script until May 2015, when an alphabet created by Dhaniram Toto, an author and village elder, was officially launched in the community. Since then, interest in the script has steadily grown, despite some opposition, to the point where the script was added to the Unicode standard in 2021 and a primer was published in early 2023.
As always, would would love to hear from anyone who has first-hand knowledge of the script and its current usage.
